The Maersk plan is designed to be a generous pension and insurance plan with the possibility of choice and flexibility. You can choose the management of your pension and adjust your insurance cover to suit your family.

Maersk definied pension plan

You can choose pension and insurance according to your needs. The idea is that, as far as possible, you should be able to design your pension and insurance according to your situation.

  • Each month, a fixed premium is paid to your pension according to the table below.

    • a certain percentage of your salary up to 7,5 times the Income Base Amount
    • a different percentage of your salary between 7,5 and 20 times the Income Base Amount
    • and an additional percentage of your salary between 20 and 30 times the Income Base Amount
    • one Income Base Amount = SEK 74 300 (2023)

  • By default, your retirement pension is managed in so-called traditional life management. Depending on your own views regarding management costs/return potential/risk, you can change your form of management at any time to instead cover fund management or custody account for your pension. It is also possible to combine the various management options. See more under Asset Management.

    Upon your initial inclusion in the programme, you receive

    • a retirement pension that is managed with so-called traditional life management
    • repayment protection, entailing that your accumulated pension capital is paid out to your survivors upon your death  
    • survivors' protection, entailing the payment of three year's salary to your survivors' upon your death*

      *If you are 60 or older, you are covered by retirement pension and repayment protection.

Survivors' protection and beneficiary clause

You can custom-tailor your occupational pension so that it meets your and your family's needs, particularly with respect to survivors' protection and the beneficiary nomination. To be able to change your survivors' protection without also having to provide information about your health, you must notify Skandia about this:

  • within three (3) months from the time you were hired.
  • You can make changes in your survivors' protection simply by filling in this form:

    • Change your surviviors' protection - application
      Print it, sign it, and send it to the address printed in the upper right-hand corner of the form. The application also shows what level of survivors' protection you can choose, and which restrictions there are.

    Survivors protection is paid as follows if no amendment is made:
    Family protection and family pension paid to the spouse / partner, or if not available the insured's children. If the insured lacks both the husband / partner and children, survivors protection is paid to the insured's spouse's / partner's children. Children do not include grandchildren.

  • Do you want to change your beneficiary, you can do so by filling out this form:

    • Change your beneficiary
      Print it, sign it and send it to the address in the right corner of the form. Pension insurance covered by the waiver of premium

    For sick leave longer than three months, the waiver of premium will take over insurance cost for all or part of your occupational pension depending on the degree of sick leave. Even if an employee was separated from his employer, because of a disability pension, the waiver of premium insurance continues to be valid, ie pension premiums continue to be made to your insurance as long as you are sick, but not beyond 67 years.

Disability pension

If you do get sick, the social insurance office replace about 80 percent of your income up to a salary of 8 times the price base amount. If you want to learn more about public health insurance, you can do it at this website www.forsakringskassan.se. 

Disability pension in the pension plan consists of two parts:

  • a sickness insurance that will compensate your income in case of long-term illness 
  • a health insurance providing preventive care and counseling and rehabilitation assistance for returning to work. Read more about health insurance.

Public insurance and insurance in Maersk plan are complementary and protect your income up to about 90% of salary in case of a long sick leave.

(For salary parts over 20 income base amounts (127 000 kr/month 2024), the compensation will be reduced to 70 percent. Salary parts over 30 income base amounts (190 500 kr/month 2024) are not insured.)

Exchange of salary

Switch a part of your salary to extra pension premium

Abstain from salary today for a better pension tomorrow.

As retirees, most of us will have lower income. You have the opportunity to exchange part of your current salary for contrbutions to your future pension.

Salary exchange is advantageous for you if – after abstaining from salary – you have a salary higher than 8,07 times the Income Base Amount (51 245 kr/month in 2024). It is not recommended that you enroll in a salary exchange programme if doing so would bring your salary below that level, since this would lower your social insurance benefits, such as national retirement pension.
